Library Strategic Plan 2016-20

The Library Strategic Plan is a 5 year forward looking document culminating from a strategic planning process, which included all three campus libraries and library technical services, that aimed to define priorities and direction for library services and resources that align with the College's Mission and Vision while also taking into account current library trends.

Library Program Review

The college libraries provide extensive academic support for all of the College’s programs and curricula.  The library program is unique in its supportive role as it incorporates four major components – instruction, services, collections and facilities.

There is a library on each campus. All three share the same mission and goals while supporting the specific needs of their campus.   In addition, there is a central library technical services department, TSO, which supports the libraries with acquisitions, cataloging and electronic resources activities.  The program review focuses on the commonality found in the libraries; as a result, the use of the term “library” will be used to reflect this common purpose.

Library Goals and Assessment Plan

The Suffolk County Community College library advances the mission of the College by teaching information literacy, providing access to academic collections, promoting student success and encouraging life-long learning. The library provides easy access to diverse print, electronic and media resources. The library fosters an educational environment enabling all members of the college community to analyze information needs, locate, evaluate and effectively use information resources. The library promotes intellectual freedom, the ethical use of information and academic integrity.
